In the darkness of his mind,
A black man fights a battle blind.
He beats himself up emotionally,
Thinking he’s failed his family.
The weight of the world on his shoulders,
He carries it alone as he grows older.
The burden of expectations,
Leaves him feeling like a patient.
He longs to be a provider,
To be someone his family can confide in.
But the weight of his own self-doubt,
Leaves him feeling like he’s down and out.
He looks in the mirror and sees,
A man who’s failed in every degree.
But what he fails to understand,
Is that he’s doing the best he can.
His love for his family is strong,
And that’s what keeps him going along.
Though he may feel like a failure,
His family sees him as their savior.
In the darkness, he must find the light,
And rise above his own self-fight.
For he’s a black man who’s strong and true,
And his family is proud of all he’s been through.
